I mean, most of that were people enslaved and the whole point was to make use of that number to ensure the great American crime against humanity wouldn't end. It didn't exist for Delaware, it existed for South Carolina.

I mean, as a method to thwart the democratic will of Americans... yes, it does work as intended. The intention sucks.

The electoral college erases the voice of everyone who didn't vote with their state's majority. It does the opposite.
1
So, democracy is bad? Why should a minority decide what happens?
1
Yeah. We should be a democracy and these idiots are wanting the electoral college.
1
I mean, that's not how governor's races work; even in New York, the governor has to court votes throughout the state, even though NYC is an even more overwhelming percentage of the vote. However, it is very important to get the vote of NYC, since that's where the most people are. And it's supposed to be democratic. So yes, I want a president that represents the majority of Americans.
1
No, that's exactly it. We know that electoral college was an agreement so those who enslaved human beings could have more political power based on how many people they had enslaved without said enslaved people being allowed to vote. Sorry if I don't want a relic created to give power to those who enslaved human beings to still exist.

But they still don't have any say. And why should the Dakotas have extra say in our elections? If the states wouldn't have interest in joining past the Mississippi river without special treatment... what point is having them at all? You need to convince me that the US stopping at the Mississippi is worse than not doing democracy.
1
But why? Why do states outweigh the value of the citizens? Why is democracy bad?
1
That's what democracy is, though.
1
Why not just have a king?
1
@tonyilias2561 I'm in agreement there. My point is that the electoral college exists to bring us closer to a monarchy. That is, away from the will of the people.
1
That's not how democracy works, though.

@navaronehartman8880 why shouldn't we, though? I understand practical limitations, thus a need for representatives in the form of congress. But why should our leader be decided by who can get at least a slight majority in enough states? What is the justification? It's important to realize that if it was democratic it wouldn't be NY or California deciding but the majority of people. Everyone's vote would finally count. Republicans in California and Democrats in Texas would count.
1
@navaronehartman8880 in short, those who grow our food can't vote, the people in cities are mostly not rich (unlike the 'farmers' who are just the people who hire undocumented workers to do the farming), and I don't want my rights determined by someone who has never met a Muslim before. To clarify, I'm not a Muslim.
1
This is so fully incorrect. First of all, they do still have overwhelming say, even with the undemocratic system we have now. Secondly, that's not how elections go like governor's races, so we know that's not true. Third- so what? Sorry, you shouldn't get more political power because you live in the middle of nowhere.
