  1. If they'd just helped the fawn up and left, the mother would certainly come right away. No need to hold it in the arms for so long and make it into a 2 day long story that might not end well at all.

  2.  Fionabuster D.  They should at least give it a chance. To leave the fawn at the bank and come back in an hour to check if the mother picked it up. If not they could proceed with the rescue. Even young children are taught not to touch little fawns and other young ones in the woods for the risc of their mother refusing them then. What's wrong with people today is that with the best intention to help they often make things worse..
