We had a rat “come live with us”. It smelled like hell… I went to learn about how to exterminate it because it was terrifying me and learned they’re really smart animals. I tried training it, but instead it realized I was someone it could exploit and one night it jumped on me and scratched me. The smell is something I’ll never forget… of course this was a street rat and I was an idiot for even trying to domesticate, but I really didn’t want to kill such a smart creature... We ended up calling an exterminator because we couldn’t live in the house anymore. It was terrorizing us. The exterminator left traps all over the house and the rat learned all their locations. Then my mom was cleaning and moved one trap accidentally to be close to another trap, and the rat finally got caught in that one and died. They can be cute and all, but the street rats are horrifying creatures. Like, I’m not afraid of any wild animal as much as I’m afraid of street rats now. They’re way too smart and they will defend their territory at any cost.
