Probably because water prompts you to poop and a baby would.. šš¤£ Pretty sure leaving the baby to bathe last helped the babyās immune systems to develop. Infant mortality and disease in general were more about having clean water to drink and the vaccines that were introduced (which was actually proven in court several times over). You would boil the bath water, so the mortality wasnāt about the bath water. Also, the leading cause of death in women who gave birth was the doctors!!! They didnāt wash their hands between dissecting corpses and moving from woman to to woman. There was a doctor named Ignasz Semmelweis who toured the world begging them to wash their hands because his women werenāt dying at all, and they laughed at him, ended his career and made him kill himself on a mental institution. Just like with COVID19, āthe scienceā was more āthe politics of the manyā.

My grandma used to have one of those mini irons. It looked just like the big ones, where youād fill it with hot coals and iron clothes, but the debate was on whether it was decorative or if it was meant for little girls to learn to do chores (probably bothā¦).

You could have said that ādonāt throw the baby out with the bath water, well, that originated from 1750, so itās not 19th century - not my problemā lol š

Just looking at it gave me a stomach ache. None of the beans were sprouted - so much gas⦠Then crackly amounts of bacon and then combined with butter. I love comfort food, but this is a bit much even for me.. how did you survive digesting it?

Are you absolutely sure that the preserved, salted lard you just cut off was used in dressing oneās hair? Iām pretty sure they would cook down the lard they used for their hair, itās not what was preserved in saltā¦

I was trying to make buttermilk rolls and I forgot that I added dairy, because usually my breads are water based so when I took it out of the proofing case it was green and now Iām sad. So I ordered ye olde pizza. Also, I rarely say āewwwā to food, donāt tell me they loved turnips back then⦠no one likes turnips. Lol.

I have a silly question I didnāt think about until now.. What would you do during summer when you donāt need a fireplace going all day? Would early Americans still cook all their (3?) meals on a fire? Were there actually 3 meals? Also, does anyone know? Weāre all women cooking? Did all families have a mother that cooked and cleaned and a dad who worked? Or were there broken dailies who starved? Were there poor houses? Coming from a home where my mom never cooked, I wish she did..

That torture device that doubles for carrying water. Lol.

I wonder how Chukchi and Yakut people do their laundry today. They canāt have any running water because the pipes just burst instantly, and they have saunas instead of bathsā¦

Why was soap so expensive? Itās technically so easy to make⦠They have more potash than they knew what to do with and all they needed to add was any oil or fat, no?

Have you seen Ruth Goodmanās show on absolute history? She made ice cream for the tourists who came to the lakeside during summer during Victorian times (I thinkā¦). Using āimported arctic iceā. And happy anniversary ā¤ļø 2022 is so weird.. you find olden timey equipment and use the internet to find out how to use it. So itās like using the most cutting edge technology just to make something with pre-electricity technology.. (probably can make ice cream with a USB port nowadays, but I know thatās not the game weāre playingā¦). The look you gave him when he gave you an ice cream makerā¦ šš¤£š This is the āhoney, I got you a vacuum cleaner for your birthdayā. From the 50s (But come on! Why are you complaining??)

Ok, I like my mattress again⦠(Newly subscribed, keep it going, fun channel ā¤ļø).
