Getting confused between left and right isn’t a marker of intelligence.
And what you’re describing is autism. Many autistic people are much smarter than the rest of the population, but they don’t know left from right, don’t get humor, don’t understand social situations.
BTW, I confuse left and right, always have.
I’m no genius, but I’m above average in intelligence.
Also, I had a friend in junior high, we laughed at how stupid she was all the time, she’d ask such stupid questions, and we’d keep asking her how she came up with such stupid questions.
She was top of the class in math.
Then, one time I asked her to explain a math problem to me, I was completely blown away.
How I define intelligence is having a good ability to problem-solve.
