Omg. Seeing what that generation are, I’m shocked so many of them live so long (knock on wood).
Processed TV dinners, the cans that were rusty on the inside, powdered eggs and spam.. 🤢
Although, I’d like to try experimenting with the powdered eggs sometime, it could probably be used for something that isn’t a fresh morning omelette.. like onion or garlic powder…
Also, they did discover some good stuff back then as well, like sweet condensed milk, I used to fight everyone over the can as a kid, then eat as much as I could and get totally sick from how sweet and sticky it was. 😂🤣
I don’t know if Americans had the same condensed milk as we had in Russia, but the Russian food stores still have it, and I would take it over dulce de leche any day. 🥰

Hahaha the uncle Roger shoutout. 😂
BTW, this recipe makes me want to ask you to try and make the Russian “shuba”.
PLEASE TRU MAKING IT!
(Also, have you tried making this fish pudding recipe without salting the living crap out of the water?).
SHUBA, is made with salted oily fish (mackerel or Matthias), topped with potatoes, eggs, other stuff and beets. If you make it right - it’s an acquired taste.
BTW, my favorite part of any fish are the cheeks, the eyes and the brain (fish heads in general 😍), and the ikras (eggs), or that thing males have instead… I forgot what it’s called, provided it’s not bitter, and also, that part of the tail, right before the end, especially if it’s salted fish, because then it’s chewy like jerky. 😍.
No one cares. Lol.

I didn’t know the poor were treated worse than the criminals even then.
It’s insane how nothing in history ever changes and how much the rich have always hated the poor, from the beginning of history until today.
They had “special use” for the criminals, so they’ve treated them a little better, the poor, however, have always been canon fodder in wars, lab rats in sickness and a herd for “thinning out” the rest of the time.
The sooner we all realize this - the sooner we would have the chance to change something.
I’m not a fan of any porridge, but I assume that anything with salt and butter in it, and boiled in clean water, would taste amazing to anyone who’s hungry.
I was totally shocked when I visited Dublin in 2016 and learned that McDonald’s offer McPoridge for breakfast. Not just because I hated porridge much more then that’s I do now, but especially because McDonald’s in America serve maple-bacon-stuffed pancakes for their breakfast menu and the contrast was just WAY too weird.
