@kermm8056 Because the word " Christian " has been co-opted in America by the Right Wing and the American Evangelical Movement. Because, in present-day America, acting like a Christian and so many of the good things that USED to mean, is not enough; in this day and age, a Christian, - or a Conservative, - has to vote Republican, and give money (that many can't really afford) to already wealthy Churches, that pay NO TAXES and tell you what you, as a Christian, should think. Churches and other " Patriotic " organizations that tell you what Politicians are Godly Men (despite what you may actually know about them), and that God is on the side of America, - when a little reading will teach you that EVERY Empire in modern history,- from Spain, France, Germany, England and now The United States - has claimed. Being a Christian shouldn't be THAT hard, - just do what Jesus did. It's in your Bible.

@elnegromatapacos162 - Levels the playing field a little bit, so that the sick and the old might get something to eat, somewhere to live and medical help when they need it. Don't be so stingy, the day could easily come when YOU might need a little help. - Not everyone in need is a Welfare Bum!

@DerGuteHut Yes, you should. Christians are often asking themselves ... " What would Jesus do? " - And yet in this, the Wealthiest nation on Earth, - a lot of so-called Christians are more concerned about what the recipient of help has done to deserve it. Sorry, but that's not a question a REAL Christian should be asking.

@ubuntuposix I understand where you are coming from, your feelings are normal, and I've experience exactly the same thing many time in my Sixty-Five years. I'm an Agnostic leaning toward Atheism, but I still try to help people when I can ... for their sake, not for a thank you. I guess, if it helps to think of it this way, - I've always kind of believed that " Christian Charity " is just doing the right thing BECAUSE it's the right thing. Naive? ... maybe. But as long as the good shit keeps getting done, I'm Happy.
