  1. ... Thom, you mention the (slowly dying) art of Rebuttal in this video, and while I personally agree with you on the importance of airing opposing views, remember that it IS a two-way street. ALSO, while there are still plenty of rational people around, the very nature of critical thinking has evolved in a large portion of the western world's population ... perhaps I should say that it has DEVOLVED. Rationality is (now) a multi-layered state of mind, and people tend to revert back to what they WANT to believe ... what costs them less and what confirms THEIR feelings ... Social Media did a LOT of damage to critical thinking skills, but it was NOT the only vector of misinformation : biased newspaper articles, feel good movies and the Television & Radio news programs all played a role, and so did the Church. Critical Thinking - like debate - is an art, and it has to be learned ... once it has, it requires a modicum of nurturing. Healthy environments like that becoming more and more rarefied in our modern times ! ... What's the answer ... who the hell knows ...
