... The entire concept of Religion is antithetical to progress - Religion is about convincing us to live in some golden past, that never really existed. It is not an evil thing per se, it is just that any practice - aimed at directing the ongoing course of human life - that is so securely tied to dogmatic behavior, and so certain of it's own perfection and inerrant leadership, - all of it dependent solely upon faith, and BLIND faith at that, - proceeds with the attitude that it, and all of it's actions are beyond questioning. That ISN'T democracy. That is a species of institutionalized Totalitarianism, masquerading as a one-way ticket to Eternal salvation

@sune212 ... Ask a Lemming ... many people live in ways that defy logic. They vote against their own interests, they smoke, drink and use drugs, they behave in racist and sexist ways, they waste money they don't have on things they don't need (or even want for any length of time), they fear the supernatural wrath of gods they have learned about from others, but have never seen or felt the presence of ... and they DO INDEED kill themselves, often over stupid things like unrequited affection and shame.
