... I dropped a hunting knife 20 years ago in an Algonquin lake. Water in that spot is about thirty feet deep, so I could never hope to retrieve it from the muddy lake bottom ... how old is that lake bottom, and what connection is there between sedimentary spores and pollen samples - and MY knife ? I believe in radiocarbon dating, but how do these folks know when that harpoon was dropped - was it dropped in shallow the water of old Doggerland or was it dropped a few of millennia later from a boat in the North Sea ? ...
