... The DOWNSIDE is that the Government (could) use this to spy on ordinary citizens ... we would only have THEIR assurances that that this would not happen. You can think whatever you like about Edward Snowden's actions, or those of Julian Assange, but they DO highlight Government control - not only of what we know, but ALSO what they don't want us too know.

@RaggedyHobo ... Yes. With Court-Ordered Warrants, they can force Facebook, Twitter, YouTube - or whoever - to disclose your IP Address and determine who and where you are. THIS gives them the ability to hunt you down as if it were no more than a traffic ticket. You Americans babble on incessantly about your " Free Speech " and now you want to let Big Brother control it ? They make it SOUND good by claiming they're only interested in stopping crime, and if I KNEW that's all they would use it for, I'd agree ... question is - what might THEY decide to CALL a crime ? - Ever heard of McCarthyism ?
