I had several pet rodents (rats) over a period of probably 5 years. They had a nasty habit of hiding food under stove and such, but were EXCEEDINGLY friendly and social with people. I only had one at a time, but would let them run around for hours, after I got home from work. I could sit in the middle of the floor and call them like a dog and would come running. They loved to wrestle around and would play JUST like a puppy. They were a total blast as pets and have many wonderful stories of their antics :)

Yes... I had multiple rats as pets (one at a time) for many years. They were all just as you see here! Crazy, frantic, cuddly and VERY social to all of the people who would visit.

@testerwulf3357 ... For a brief time, my room mate had one also, but they would spend more time either stealing each other's bedding material or talking each other into digging carpet to get under a door or something that made me less enthused about having a pet rodent :( I found that they were exceptionally social with us hoomans and each one was seemingly quite happy to be solo. These were female rodents, as they are or these were, much cleaner than males. . I used to put her on my shoulder and ride my bike down to the video store to rent a VHS. Remember those... lol There was many times, when I would be browsing and she would stand up on hind legs to investigate the person next to me doing the same thing. Sometimes, they would be startled by the movement and I wasn't even aware what was happening. Most of the time, people would inquire about what it is to have a pet rat and I was CONSTANTLY dispelling all kinds of stereotypes. People typically think they are VERY dirty and have images of them dragging babies down into the sewers and such... lol. The tail was the hardest part for most of them to accept. The roughness of it and how they use it for balance and to hold on to stuff. . I miss those little rodents at times, but I don't miss repairing the telephone cords all the time :(

Many people don't understand rodents. I had multiple rats (one at a time) for quite a few years and they were just WONDERFUL pets. I have many, many great stories of how they used to play with me or ride on my shoulder when I went to the video store to rent a VHS... remember those...? LOL. My understanding is that rats are more sanitary than mice, but I don't have 1st hand experience with mouses. My rats were all very sweet, very friendly and exceptionally social and I missed each one after they had passed.
