  1. @Hello Hello ... Yes. I would have used a small chisel for the entire procedure or at least when half-inch from reaching kitty. I like the idea of using a hammer to strike the machete, barring the lack of any other tools. I have used a machete many times and specifically to split logs for firewood. It only takes a minute incorrect angle to deflect the blade to a completely different location than intended. While I am certainly happy to see the kitty is fine, I think the manner in which this little one was extracted left MUCH to be desired :(

  2. Once I got to within 1/2" of the kitty, I would have gone with a small chisel to pry away small pieces, rather than swinging that machete. Barring no chisel... begin prying MUCH sooner! A for results D for execution (because that may have been the result, with an errant swing)
