@yoyoma17 ... Yes. I was subd to Sam for a number of years and looked past his TDS, because it was not relevant to why I followed him. However, as he sold more and more of his soul to the dark forces of derangement, it became more and more difficult to ignore. When he make comparisons to Osama Bin Laden and Hitler a few years back, I made sure to listen to the entire podcast, to make sure I had all of the context understood. Were it not for his well established TDS already, I would have given him some benefit of the doubt, but would push back on how he expressed himself. However, this was not the case, as he was quite clear and I could no longer respect him, as his principles took a back seat to his blind hate.
.
I actually gave him another chance, a year or so ago when he made his viral "eating my words syllable by syllable" Tweet. I listened to his entire podcast of "clarification" of that initial comparison of Hitler and Osama. It became clear, he had not done the reflection I had hoped and only doubled-down. He AGAIN doubled-down on Triggernomitry a few months back and now this. I am well beyond the point when I can afford him any benefit of good will or simply failure to be clear. Unless he was to COMPLETELY own his TDS and step back with a broad lens to accept his selling of core principles, I will forever be disappointed in him 😿

@markbuckingham649 ... It would not. What Sam is saying is if my aunt had balls, she would be my uncle. What he is necessarily avoiding is the circumstances presented dictate a manner in which we deal with Covid. Very early on, like in all new viruses, we did not really know the demographics of who would be gravely vulnerable. We have to assume all, until we get data to prove one way or another. We figured out real quick that while many were getting sick, it was comorbidities and elderly that were dying or had serious complications. Had this NOT been the case and children were the ones dying, there would have been much less hesitancy upon those who were skeptical. The issue of testing, or the lack there of, would STILL be a big concern, but if we see children dying, society is VASTLY less risk averted.
.
So, for Sam to completely change these circumstances with his hypothetical question and assume we all would have responded the same way, is ridiculous in the extreme. Sam is smarter than this, as is 98% of the population, so I don't know who he is trying to fool here.
.
EDIT... LOL... I just now watched the remaining video of The Gadfather here. All of my comments to this point, were prior to Gad's response after he played the full 5 min clip of Sam. Now that I watch it, I used the same metaphors he did 😸

@captainmaim ... YES! I remember it all very well and the dripping hypocrisy of Pelosi in china Town of San Francisco and that 100% of what Trump wanted to address, was instantly some extroversion of "ist" that he was attempting to impose on us all. TDS is arguably the most detrimental disease ever faced in my lifetime of 58 years and the direct path to the compounding of societal division we see killing us all presently. Those with TDS cannot be reached, for they are so entrenched in the hatred, they are blinded by rage and overcome with terror at the mere mention of his name. My own mother is VERY much afflicted by this disease and will LITERALLY begin shaking like a full-blown level 4 Parkinson's sufferer, at the simple conversation that MAY lead in the following 5 minutes lead to the mention of his name! Yes.. it is that bad and leads her to heckler's veto me many times and has become a major rift in our relationship. I get the whole blood is thicker than water and I avoid going near politics, but basic conversations, beyond what is on TV, will eventually lead to SOMETHING political.
.
In some ways, she hates Trump, MORE than she loves me. That sounds insane, but it is absolutely true! TDS is like nothing I have ever witnessed in my entire life and as far as I can tell, it can only be mitigated by complete agreement with one who is governed by it.

Carbon Proksi ... Well said 🐱I was thinking about this for a few moments after my last comment in this thread. It occurred to me that those who think ideologically, seem to think that those who have an opposing view must ALSO think ideologically. I am sure that in some cases and for some people this is true, but Sam is making the case that those (all) who were skeptical or vax hesitant were responding this way on ideological grounds. That is to say, if one opposed the vax, it was ONLY because others are for it. What he his utterly failing to recognize, is those who were skeptical, because of the data we had and as a pre-caution to over-reaction. I was among those and while we were proven correct in the end, we very well could have been wrong. To this end, I cannot speak for all who were skeptical, but I was willing to change my opinion, had the evidence concluded that this was a bigger life saving threat to the general or child population. The ideologue will make no such concession, as their position will remain constant to seemingly no end. There are certainly those who WILL change their opinion, but takes a MASSIVE amount of evidence that is conclusive.
.
Then we have the true cult! Those who will double-down 100% of the time and NEVER allow new information to update their initial response. We have seen this time and time again with the MarxistCrats, but up until the last year or so, I never would have imagined that Sam Harris would be among them. Now, I DO think that he will come around one day, because while he is ideologically driven currently, he was not indoctrinated to ONLY respond in this manner. He will one day look back and recognize how he sold his principles for an ideology and have a very difficult awakening.

Carbon Proksi .. TDS = Trump Derangement Syndrome. In the case of Sam Harris, I might describe as Terminal Derangement Syndrome. Don't know if anyone considers SH their hero, but if so, that person would almost certainly make a distinction between pre and post TDS. His ability to be rational on that subject is catastrophically impaired. Not that he has to even like Trump, but in his eyes, he is pure evil and that is just SOO over the top.
.
Although I do think that Sam will come around one day, because he really is a great thinker, he just just clouded with TDS, so sold some of his core principles and that is sad. While I do think he will recover, I am not awaiting it or spending any energy on it. I just figure that one day he will make a podcast in which he finds a much more rational interpretation of his views on Trump and recognizes how over the top he was. That day may never come, but I think it will. Peace, CP 🐈

Carbon Proksi .. Because I hope that ALL who suffer from an ideology wake up 🐱Sam is an interesting case, because he is a very deep thinker and would have NEVER considered him to fall victim to TDS, but he has. Religion is an interesting topic for me, as I am not in even the most microscopic of ways, yet I have come to respect those who follow faith more over the years. I have always maintained that "religion is good for the sole, but not for the whole". That is to say, each individual can get what they need and leave what they don't. The moment it becomes "organized", it can begin to fracture people in groups who interpret something differently. I totally get why some will gravitate toward religion and again why others will reject it. It is interesting to hear from one who did the former, but discovered the latter.
.
TDS is unique, because it is not difficult at all to do little research to debunk all of the "ist's" of which he is accused. The problem is getting them to a point at which they are willing to take in new information that may change their opinion. This is the nature of all ideologues, but the grip of TDS is so strong, that rational discussion is EXCEEDINGLY difficult to achieve. Those same people can have a conversation about Hitler, but with the historical knowledge of his evil for all to see. He was not in the death camps murdering personally, he orchestrated and approved it all. When it comes to Trump, no such rational discussion can be had, because their hatred feels personal. They have watched CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the Joseph Goebbels Propaganda Media Machine and intentionally avoided ANY information that may lead to a contrary conclusion.
.
I do hope that Sam wakes up one day, as I do all who hold intentional blind spots. It is sad to see those hold onto opinions that deny any input that may shed light upon them.

Carbon Proksi ... It is clear that Sam has this affliction, so it is obvious he can fall victim to it, but that does not mean it was a readily predictable to happen. when I say "Sam is a deep thinker", it is because he has proven time and time again and over the course of many years, to see delusion and expose it. It is clear he has failed to do so in this case, but that is PRECISELY why I am so baffled. My mother is perfect example of the same thing. I got much of my critical thinking skills from her and with the single exception of Trump, we can talk in great detail about anything. She may not change her opinion, but she will acknowledge where her position is weak and allow new information into her forward consideration. This is simply not the case with those who have TDS, because it is like a "barrier" that is purpose built to ensure that no information pass.
.
Nobody can argue that Sam has not fallen to TDS, but there are reasons why many of those who were always impressed with Sam are now very disappointed in him. Of course you and I differ in experiences, but that does not mean I have any less grasp of human nature than you do, only that I have a different take on what I see here. That does not make me correct nor does it make you wrong... it is just how we see this differently.
.
Time will tell of Sam ever sees his delusion. I will not hold my breath, but I do hope that he one day comes to recognize it. My belief is he will 🐈⬛
