When Bugs Bunny was referring to Elmer Fudd when he did something he thought was stupid, was not appropriate to say "what a moron", as it was a cartoon and this was, what late 60's? In order to avoid risking that word on a cartoon, he would say... :"what a moroon". The funny thing was, while I had heard Bugs say that a sheet ton of times, was not until I was probably like 20 when a buddy said ..."what a moroon", when I did something dumb. I laughed and said..."hey, Bugs Bunny" and asked what it meant, cuz I hadn't heard it since I was like 6 or something. . He explained it to me and I was at that point, I felt like a actual "moroon"... 😸

I suppose they could have said "[this word]", but I am only speculating they would not only avoid it, but give an inside-pun for parents and adults. We see that in a TON of animated movies over the last 20 years. Look at Sh-rek, To-y S-to-ry for purrfect examples. . The word "Ma-ro-on" has been used as a term for runaway [blacks] in the West Indies, but don't know when. . Wow... Bu-gs B-un-ny began in 1940, so that phrase may be older than I thought. Anyway, interesting to hit the w-ayba-ck ma-ch-ine of my youth's and see Bugs again. Think I will hit up some old videos and catch up... peace .   6.  @MarieAnne.  … It is possible that it Bugs used the wrong word, because HE is the acttual moron, but I don’t think so. There is no way to prove it either way, but my instinct, as well as my friends, is that bugs was mocking Elmer and others, but in a way that adults would catch and kids would not. . We know that young kids will repeat words that get a reaction from adults, which is precisely why parents try not to swear in front of children. If a child says “F” or “S”, adults will notice and since it got a reaction…. they are more likely to use the word again. . No…. I am sticking with my OP 😺
