No, Japanese and Korean cultures are very very different. Almost opposite, because Japanese culture was originally sea-based, then rice crops came followed by other agriculture. Korea, on the other hand, was originally land-based people, then non-cropping came followed by rice.
Because of the rich sea, the Japanese did not think to overcome or control nature, therefore their Shintoism. Also, rice farming is about 10 times more efficient than upland cropping. So, there was no slavery, and the difference in living standards among the people was very limited compared to upland cropping countries.
In the famous book, "The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order" written by a Harvard Professor, Samuel Huntington, the Japanese civilization is of its own, the Japanese Civilization, whereas Korea belongs to Chinese civilization.
