Getting rid of the filibuster to pass nationwide abortion law is not the solution because Republicans can then do the same in the opposite direction anytime. SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade does not ban abortions, it simply gives that right to the states to decide for themselves where it belongs.

@TheFinalChapters no, it shouldn't be a constitutional amendment either, and since it's unconstitutional then federal law could be overturned for being unconstitutional. It's a states right and states power issue and should be decided by individual states for themselves.

@TheFinalChapters yes, but federal law can not supercede the constitution, and there is no right in the constitution giving the federal government the right over abortions or any medical procedures, but there is the 10th amendment that specifically states that any right not delegated to the federal government are reserved directly for states, hence, abortions would be a states rights issue. The federal government can't make laws governing any rights that the federal government has no right over in the first place. Notice how there is no federal law governing state level elections.

@TheFinalChapters oh I agree, a constitutional amendment would rectify that, but anything short of that will not rectify anything as legal scholars have been debating and arguing about this since the 70's that it should be a states right issue and not a federal issue. And no, I don't believe that the federal government has jurisdiction over this matter as there is nothing in the constitution that delegates abortions or any medical procedures to be a power of the federal government. And stop with the BS of trying to call out anyone's true colors all of a sudden, it's uncalled for and a lowbrow attack. I think that abortion should be a states rights issue where blue states can choose for themselves if they want to uphold it without pushing their beliefs on red states in the same way that I believe that red states should not be allowed to ban abortions on a national level and push their beliefs onto blue states. This ruling would simply allow states to make their own decisions based for themselves

@TheFinalChapters how ironic of you to claim now that it shouldn't be anyone's decision while the whole time you have been pushing for the federal government to force abortions on everyone. As a point of note, I am pro choice, it's your decision if you want one or not, but it's been a government issue since Roe was put in so it will always be a government issue forever. But as a pro choice person, I think SCOTUS decision to put it back into state hands is the right decision. I'm not willing to ban it for anybody, but at the same time I'm not willing to force it on everybody.

@TheFinalChapters government forcing the beliefs of one group on another is massive government overreach, especially if its the federal government doing it acros the country. why is it that the people in CA and NY should get to decide to allow abortions in a state where the people oppose it on moral grounds and beliefs? and we are not even talking about abortions anymore even, the left has moved so far from center that we have leftists talking about giving birth to the child and making the child comfortable while the mother and doctor discuss terminating the babys life (GOV Northam). it should be a states right, where one state shouldnt use the federal government to push their beliefs on another state that is opposed to those beliefs.

@TheFinalChapters now who is preposterous? you want to argue that no one is forcing you to believe abortion is the right thing to do but you want to codify it into law on a federal level for everyone everywhere including for communities who DONT believe its the right thing to do. as for states punishing anyone? no one is being punished, if your state wants abortion, then vote for it in your state, if another state doesnt want it, then they vote against it. its called majority rules, and what you want to do is take away the majorities rule to give a minority more power. and dont speak about logic, its apparent you are incapable of thinking logically. perhaps you never heard of the 13th amendment, thats the one that ended slavery EVERYWHERE in the states. maybe you should go re-read the constitution, and then point out where in the constitution it states that anyone has the right to an abortion, or any medical procedure? wouldnt it be funny if the right banned abortion everywhere? oh wait, they want to do that and you are foaming at the mouth with anger, but you want to push abortion everywhere and expect everyone to simply take it smiling.
