And keep in mind also that, when we were a fledging country, we didn’t have the social programs for immigrants like we have now. Immigrants of the past had to come here with skills so that they could take care of themselves. A baker would come and start baking bread to sell to feed his family. A tailor would come and start making clothing to sell to feed his family. And so forth. Now, we hand out hotel rooms, food, health care, drivers licenses, etc. Completely different picture, and completely different incentive structure.

The All In guys are good guests. They have unique expertise and really contribute to discussions on topics that Megyn’s other usual guests can’t really address.

I would like to see our immigration policies changed, first of all, to only accept people here that have some special to contribute to American prosperity. Not just people that want a better life, and hope they can get it here. They should stay in the home countries to work for change there. That’s how this country got to be as great as it is - we worked on it. We didn’t just leave when things got difficult. But, second, I think we still need to be careful that we aren’t just importing talented or skilled people from other countries, instead of working on our existing systems designed to educate and train people that we already have here. But, that is going to require a huge shift to merit instead of race/sex, and will take probably a couple decades to accomplish. That’s a lot of Republican Presidents! :)

JCal still has such a lefty position on the illegal aliens that are in our country, and the topic of immigration in general. That line “America was built by immigrants” is such a ridiculous, trite saying that you hear all the time from the Dems. At the height of the immigration to the US in the past, it was before there were these ridiculous, overblown social programs. The immigrants that came here knew that they had to bring a skill or trade with them, so they could survive. Now, everyone coming across the border illegally gets hand out and luxury hotel rooms. And, I don’t know how any reasonable person would not agree with the statement “America is for Americans”. How is that xenophobic? That is not a hatred of foreigners. That is saying that we want people to come to this country from other countries, but to do it LEGALLY. If they do it legally, that will make them Americans.

What I found funny, at both the All In Summit and in this episode with Megyn, when she nicely slaps him down, he backs off pretty easily. I used to find him annoying on the All In Podcast, but he has loosened up so much now, and does a great job running the podcast and covering a great variety of topics that I can’t get anywhere else. Highly recommend it.
