Cross bows did not have long range. They were used because they were fast and accurate and no skill required.

I doubt that the Japanese bow had a range of 380 meters. The draw on it would not give that to you.

You are correct. It went by various names. Turkish bow, Mongolian bow etc. Each was put together somewhat differently but the design was close. I do not know about the Turks but the Mongols measured the distance at which an arrow was effective and on target by the length of a bow. I think they called it li. They marked stones as to the distance. You can find them all over Mongolia marked at 500 li. I think the draw was like 165 lbs. The Mongols (not sure with the Turks) had a different way to pull the arrow. They were able to pull it back an additional 2" over that of others. The great advantage of their bow over the long bow is that it could be used from a horse.
