Well said. I made the same objection under an earlier video of his.

I never hear anyone argue why a potentially brilliant filmmaker should want to strive in pleasing so vulgar a public. It's not as though great films of the past have led to an obviously improved society neither.

I was thinking: what about reaffirming ideals and creating new ones? Or perhaps raising philosophical questions?

Maybe someday they'll say the same about Obama's civilian drone-kills.

Only in America. How should we pronounce niche btw? Nitch?

And there'll always be a Best Picture winner no matter how poor the year's offering.

But he went on to praise their art later.

I don't comprehend that last remark.

@ghostofwolfmoonmani3877 Money inspires masterpieces??? Avengers: Endgame (2019) alone grossed nearly $3bn. Hollywood's far from going broke.

@ghostofwolfmoonmani3877 ' The year [2020] was greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with numerous films originally scheduled for theatrical release were postponed or released on video on demand or streaming services, and as a result, 2020 was the first year since 2008 not to have a film gross $1 billion in its initial release, the first year since 2005 not to have a film gross over $900 million, the first year since 2000 not to have a film gross over $600 million, and the first year since 1995 not to have a film gross over $500 million.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_in_film

Irrespective of quality, just before the plandemic Hollywood films were still hugely popular: 'Bad Boys for Life was theatrically released in the United States on January 17, 2020, by Sony Pictures Releasing under the Columbia Pictures label. The film received generally positive reviews from critics,[7] becoming the best-reviewed film in the series. It also grossed $426.5 million worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 2020, the highest-grossing installment of the series and the biggest January release of all time.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Boys_for_Life 'Netflix keeps growing in pandemic, tops 200 mn subscribers' https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/media/entertainment/media/netflix-keeps-growing-in-pandemic-tops-200-mn-subscribers/articleshow/80357680.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst Imo today's Hollywood is both a product-selling business and a propaganda arm of Washington. As with the perfume, mineral water and popular music industries, it turns a profit by selling effectively-marketed empty vessels. Sure these films would be more lucrative if they were to genuinely imbue excitement but what I'm not so far seeing is evidence of a financial crisis owing to hordes of disenchanted viewers.

He seemed awful in the new Bill and Ted clips imo.

... that formerly failed.

Indeed, plus necessity is the mother of invention. If the Occident needed great films, then someone would be making them.

Ooh don't joke. I just had stents removed two days ago.
