Imo a worthwhile modern Trek series would tackle issues contemporary thought's wrestling with: The threat of AI to mankind's premiership, the mainstream media's manipulation of society, probity vs nihilism, censorship vs free expression, social climbing vs opting out and self-development, balancing the public's safety with their right to bear arms, should a policeman kill a person to save a person? And even the unresolved old chestnut of free will vs determinism. This could potentially imbue the project with serious purpose, attracting learned and sensitive artists to invest their best efforts.
