  1. Regarding the whole oil thing, like a few other comments: 5w30 is, I think, too thin. At high engine temps, this oil is going to thin out a lot, and at that point the Vanos units will have less precise engagements. It's not just me, though; Redline oils say the same: this video, between the 6 and 8 minute mark, has some great info for BMWs specifically. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6VLMfUz34R0
