It's fascinating to me that Jag invested in a double-wishbone front suspension, technically superior to the 3-series MacPherson strut and double-ball joint. I'd take the XE in a heartbeat over any of its competitors.

That loose shifter is about 1/3rd as loose as the one in my BMW...

I've never clicked so fast!

If it appears that your RMS is leaking after replacement, don’t forget to check your coolant/oil heat exchanger in the valley of the V. If its o-rings have failed, it can pour oil out the back of the motor in such a way that it leaks out like an RMS
7
Right?! I don't get it either...
6
Limited Alcantara. Mr. Murray would approve!
6
You don’t have a Mk4 nav computer yet? Dude, get on it. It transforms the entire radio/nav UI speed. Worth it.

3:23 The pad wear sensor's probably on the right rear brake only. It's like that on my E39.

I nearly killed myself on June 15. 12 days ago. Everything in this video registers as true for me. I'm glad I didn't; I'm glad I'm still here. It's one day at a time right now, and I'm getting help. Thank you for your content; it really means a lot.

We don't need no stinkin' break-in period! ;)
5
I have to start wearing socks, shoes, and pants. No more flip-flops and shorts :(
4
Lol, I can't even afford the M3 my favorite YouTuber drives... ;)
4
0:15 I missed that one at first, LOL 🤣
4
I bet your throttle actuators get a little more exercise than the standard M3 driver.

Re: cooling system refresh. The E39 M5 water pump is all metal (stainless steel). I replaced mine at 164,000 miles, and it looked good enough to put back in. I wouldn’t worry about the water pump. Replace the thermostat; they fail constantly. Replace the hoses, but leave the radiator alone. Mine’s original at 172,000mi. Replace the fan clutch. You could also upgrade to the spiral blade design of the E53 X5 and E65 7-series; they’re reputed to be quieter and waft more air.

7:13 Holy crap, that's a lot of cops. I don't think there are that many speed traps in the entirety of California.

This car is why I subscribed way back in the day. I don’t know of any one who has swapped a steering rack in; that would require an entirely new oil pan design and subframe. It would be awesome, though.

For Tedward's videos, I wait for the 1080p buffer. It's worth it.
3
I still can’t believe you don’t have 100k subscribers. I love your content.
3
Put 100k miles on it, then sell it to me :)
3
For sure. IIRC, Thaddeus of The Smoking Tire ran a hillclimb time very close to a 430's time in his tuned ST.
2
Gorgeous color; I want my E39 in that almost-burnt orange now...
2
Wow, that SL is sweet! Is that MB Tex Vinyl or leather? Either way it looked minty fresh! And wow, that Nardi looks amazing, but you'd need a set of driving gloves to drive it, I guess. Too bad about all the rain we're having, though.
2
So close to 1k!
2
Seems those guys made a worthWile investment in that new shop! Sorry not sorry
2
This is the only E9x BMW I’d consider buying (I’ll never sell my E39). I love that interior color.
2
Aww, this video features baby Tedward! :)
2
I've driven my E39 530i 5-speed 20k miles in the past year, and it's my "fun" car, so... ;)
2
That looks like so much fun! Windows down in the rain, though? Brr!
2
On tight, twisty roads, this thing rocks. I was easily outrun by a Fiesta ST and what sounded like a turbo'd Honda Fit on Glendora Mountain Road.
1
Agreed, it's the best. :) Also, way to tease us!
1
Oooh, the stop you guys made a 2:26 is an AMAZING view of LA at night. Only problem is that rattling ventilation fan in one of the buildings nearby kinda disturbing the peace...
1
The Miata at high revs sounds pretty much exactly like the iRacing Miata... not sure if that's a compliment to the video game, or an insult to the Miata.
1
Hey, what walkie talkie system do you use? I need one for my own drives.
1
Ooh, looking good! Love the haircut.
1
Wait, you're next to a white board there... Coming for Engineering Explained now?! TRIGGERED
1
Big brake kits are sooo expensive for E39s... like $5-8k. But I want one for my 530i bad.
1
Morning voice? Morning voice. ;)
1
2 guys, 1 Miata, 1 shirt... Hmmm. ;)
1
Lol, I haven't seen the F&F movies either. Can't be bothered, and the sped up footage and crazy antics would just leave me upset.
1
In-N-Out! Best fast food ever!
1
4:51 Don’t bother with any aftermarket stereos, there’s a team working on CarPlay for the E39/E53/E46 nav’s right now
1
Is that Reed's Ginger beer? My favorite beverage!
1
Aircooled engines that make big power are very finicky. Think Porsche 917/30.
1
The angle measurement - the main reason I bought this torque wrench - does not work past 20 ft.lbs. I haven't seen that noted anywhere. I cannot torque fasteners that require 65º of angle torque because the torque range is exceeded. Frustrating.
1
That dog is so adorable.
1
For the GTI springs, you could just buy a 22mm socket and hack the center out. Then you could use an allen key to hold the strut still. EZ. Worked for my E39.
1
I've been here for a while; before the Viterbo vlogs (remember those?). Thank you for your enthusiasm and dedication. It is truly a joy to watch! I look forward to seeing what the future holds.
1
I love everything about this car. Except the wheels. The chunky looking design just doesn't do it for me, especially with those optional, beautiful thin spoke wheels...
1
JNCOs lol.
1
(Im)patiently waiting for an ETCG Fairmont vs GTI video ;)
1
I'm with Nick Murray on this one - Alcantara is a horrible automotive fabric.
1
I always keep an extra drain plug on hand for such times as these. Oh well.
1
Alex Roy is the best. Great guy, great stories, great legacy. That makes it sound like he's dead, lol. He's still awesome.
1
Love those wheels. My first 530i had E39 fitment dealer installed 71s and they’re 😍
1
Happy birthday!
1
The SES light is because you don't drive it enough 😉
1
Do a Mk4 nav upgrade if you haven't yet, and you can add things like a newer radio module for an aux input.
