  1. The bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki wound up saving MILLIONS of lives by making a land invasion of the main islands of Japan unnecessary. If you look at the amount of military and civilian casualties on Okinawa and extrapolate those numbers to the main islands, the death toll there would have been unprecedented in human history.
