  2. I remember being a SAW gunner before there were thermal guards on the top of the barrel, the barrel itself was much lighter, and the stock was a wireframe stock. It was a full 5 or 6 pounds lighter than the SAW with the heavy barrel, thermal guard on the top of the barrel, and the carbon fiber stock. You always had to be careful back then because you could easily burn your forearm on the top of the barrel. Our armorer made custom thermal guards out of the thermal guards used on the M-16 with the M-203 attached.

  4. I read a book about the US Nuclear Submarine program and a glass sphere can not crush under water pressure. The glass just gets denser and denser. They were able to take spheres of glass to the bottom of the ocean. They though about making submarine hulls out of it but the technical challenges were too complex.

  5. Question was the metal even warm to the touch at the impact points? If not any theories? I am guessing that it must be a very good conductor for heat and it absorbed the heat generated on impact and dispersed it throughout the block.
