I wonder how many Iranian pilots became aces in the F-4 Phantom. The F-4 dominated the skies over Iraqi aircraft.

It is not China's answer to the F-22. That thing is a long range interceptor designed to get close enough to US aerial tankers and command and control aircraft and hit them with very long range air to air missiles. It handles like a pig but it does not need to be maneuverable for its mission. It isn't very stealthy but betting than most 4th gen aircraft.

I heard that if Iraqi RWR's showed an AWG-9 the Iraqi pilots bugged out.

@2ZZGE100 The ONLY Iraqi plane the Phantom would have trouble with is the MIG-25. Mig-21, 23 and Mirage F1 were easy targets for the Phantom.

@2ZZGE100 The Mig 23 is one of the worst fighters ever built, an F-4 would have little problems killing it. The Mig-21 would not turn circles around the Phantom. In Vietnam Mig-21's NEVER willingly engaged Phantoms , they used hit and run ambush tactics but when forced to fight the Mig-21 was a pretty easy kill for a good Phantom driver. Just look at how easily Israel delt with Mig-23's and Mig-21's with their Phantoms before they got F-15's and 16's. The Mirage F-1 was not a fighter, it was a ground attack aircraft, the Phantom would eat it alive.

What is the TF Kahn? A bad copy of the F22!

@lensman5762 I am not arguing that the F-4 was on par with the F-14 it was not. All I am saying is the Iraqi's didn't have anything other than the MIG-25 that could give an F-4 problems in a dogfight.

Iran was far better off under the Shah than they are under the Muslim lunatics that have ruled the country since.

@voidtempering8700 I can't really tell you that.

@shoshe-vs8nd The difference is the F22 will sweep the skies clear in a war without ever being detected. It is LIGHTYEARS more advanced than anything flying today.
1
@shoshe-vs8nd It does not, it is close to the 37,000–39,000 lbf (164.6–173.5 kN) range of thrust of the P&W F-119 PW 100 engine in the F-22 but it does not exceed it.

@elmouto3883 That is in interesting solution. Do you think Elon Musk is right and the day of the manned fighter is over?
