To clarify the 332'nd Fighter Group, AKA The Tuskegee Airmen were one of the WORST fighter groups of the war. Not a SINGLE member earned the title of Ace, their kill/loss ratio was 1-1. The mythology that has surrounded them and exaggerated their accomplishments to such an extent that people think they were some sort of super unit.

I will point out that they only served in theatre for the last 3 months of the war.

@manrun528 Actually no it is not. FACT, not a single member of the 332'nd earned the title of ace. FACT their kill/loss ration was 1-1. FACT the MYTH about them never losing a bomber to enemy fighters was made up. They lost over 30. They flew 179 missions escorting bombers and only encountered enemy aircraft on 35 of them. When they started escorting bombers the Luftwaffe was defeated as a fighting force. Most of those fighter encounters were only one or two enemy fighters. Their mythology is almost entirely made up and I am sure you know why!

@manrun528 Just google table of 332'nd fighter group for the 15th airforce. Not hard to find. It isn't hate, it is simple fact, I am a history NERD and I read all the time. What irritates me is that EVERYONE knows who the Red Tails are yet NOBODY knows the story about the The 761st Tank Battalion, also known as the Black Panthers. They actually were an ELITE tank battalion in WW2 that just so happened to be all black. Their combat record was as good or better than ANYONE. They were ELITE, yet forgotten to history while the mediocre 332'nd is praised, even though they didn't really deserve it through accomplishment.

@manrun528 Check out the the 357th FG The fighter Group produced the most aces in the Eighth Air Force—42—and was credited with the most aerial victories in a single mission, 56. They were one of the highest scoring Fighter groups of the war, has ANYONE other than history nerds like me heard of them? How about the 4th Fighter Group? It was the highest scoring fighter group in the USAAF, destroying 1,016 enemy aircraft on the ground and in the skies over Europe.

You left out the Canadians who stormed the beach on D-Day, Juno beach was one of the most heavily defended beaches.
