  2. I can relate brother. I served as a gunners mate in 16 inch turret one on the USS Iowa BB61. On April 19th 1989 we were conducting a gunnery exercise off Puerto Rico when Turret two suffered a catastrophic failure and exploded, killing 47 men. I was part of the remains recovery detail because guys from the other turrets would know where everyone would be. Seeing my friends that I lived with and ate with blown into pieces, burned beyond recognition. We identified the turret chief by his rank insignia on his collar because he had no head. This year was the 35 anniversary and the things I saw and did that day still haunt me.
