From a supply standpoint they do not in the short term. The price is rising because of the speculators. As well as the disruption in Saudi Arabia's output due to the war they are fighting against the rebels in Yemen.

Higher oil prices actually helps Americans. We have a huge amount of oil reserves that are trapped in rock shale or need fracking in order to extract. Those processes are expensive and when oil is really cheap per barrel is is cost prohibitive to gain oil through these methods. If the price of oil per barrel is high it makes these methods more cost competitive.

@stevenlindsey2056 I get what you are saying but the rebels being backed by Iran have access to much more sophisticated weapons and missiles like the ones used to damage the Saudi Aramco oil facilities. Add in with the pandemic production was cut due to decreased demand. The speculators in the stock market also play a large part in driving oil prices.
