If you look at the 20 years in Afghanistan, statistically it was more dangerous to live in Chicago in those 20 years. Keep the conflict going doing next to nothing and count the trillions of dollars coming in.

There are MANY different types of radiation and the VAB is comprised of Charged Particle radiation which is not particularly dangerous to people. In order to get a lethal dose of radiation from the VAB as a human you would need to spend about 6 months inside them.
