Lets be clear, Buster didn't train, he was 30+ pounds heavier for Holyfield than he was for Tyson and he quit on the floor. He was fully capable of getting up, he chose not to. If the Buster Douglas who showed up in Tokyo was at this fight, he would have beaten Holyfield quite easily.

Riddick Bowe fought Holyfield in his prime and destroyed him. Lewis fought an old washed up Holyfield and couldn't do squat.

@grandinquizitor7412 To be fair though, Douglas could have gotten up at 6. He was fine and alert the moment he hit the canvas. He followed the refs count. It was also at the end of the round so even if he got up at four, he would have made it to his stool at the end of the round.

@hiigpetko2696 LOL Golota was never better than Mike Tyson. On Golota's BEST night he would still be out in 3 rounds or less. Tysons had speed was just too much for him.
7
Bowe much like Tyson was his own worst enemy. Neither guy had the desire and discipline once they reached the top to stay there.

@614GTRjr I wouldn't call him a coward, the damage inflicted on him in such a short period is terrifying. He had two herniated disks in his neck, to continue contest could have resulted in paralysis. Totally outclassed by Mike, yes. A coward, I don't think so.

When people talk about PRIME Mike Tyson, they are not just referring to his age. They are talking about his technical skills in the ring. Watch how Mike worked off the jab, and how good his defense was and how quick his footwork was. Fast forward to the Buster Douglas fight, he had fired Kevin Rooney and hired Aaron Snowell, a guy who had no experience in the peek-a-boo style and had never been a head trainer. In the Douglas fight, Tyson looked like a zombie, slow plodding footwork, the jab was gone and his head movement was slow and minimal at best. Douglass was able to land power shots clean and flush AT WILL in that fight. Mike Tysons technical skills in the ring had eroded away so badly that he was just a one or two power punching brawler. If Tyson would have stayed focused on fighting and kept Kevin Rooney there is no telling how long he would have held the title for.

@méa-d1l LOL I was an amateur boxer in the military and Amanda Nunes could give me her best shot and it would be easier to take than ANY of the guys I sparred with at 170.

@jangy36 I watched the fight, Douglas was so out of shape, it was clear he didn't train very much for Holyfield.

@steveibiza5516 I do agree, and what is funny is if you told a woman in college that on average men are larger and stronger she would try and report you for a hate crime.

EVERYONE but Mike Tyson ducked Tony Tucker until he was 35 years old when he got a shot at Lennox Lewis. In his prime EVERYONE but Tyson ducked him.
3
A hungry and in shape, Bowe would have DESTROYED Lewis with little difficulty.
3
@bonnescottkarra5879 Only someone with little knowledge of the sport thinks that actually means something. Jorge Louis Gonzales beat Bowe in the Amateurs. Gonzales beat Bowe in the Pan American games, knocking him down four times and DOMINATING him. When they met in the pro's Bowe mauled him in one of the most one-sided beat downs in boxing history. Henry Tillman beat Mike Tyson MULTIPLE times as an amateur, but didn't last a round as a pro.

@steveibiza5516 I never said a man couldn't get beat up by a woman. I only stated that a female boxer's punch is a fraction of what a males would be in the same weight class.
2
@glenw-xm5zf Laila can hit for a girl. Compared to ANY man in her weight class, she would be in the bottom of the power spectrum. Ronda Rousey would get housed by an average 200 pound guy with little effort.
2
I also believe he had a couple of herniated disks in his neck.
2
@simonjames1604 I wouldn't call Frank Bruno and Razor Ruddock fighters of no note.
2
@alfiedamage9203 I will admit it, I was wrong, but if you were around back in the day and saw Buster at the weigh in, it was clear he was in no shape to fight.
2
I will always remember him for being a PED junkie. Without the roids he would not have been Heavyweight champion.

@steveibiza5516 How do I move there?

@steveibiza5516 It would be nice to get away from a certain demographic with a penchant for violence and crime.

@glenw-xm5zf Ronda Rousey was getting her ass kicked by women in her own weight class. A man would have little difficulty beating her in a legitimate fight. Rolling around on the mat with men who are not giving their all is one thing, a legitimate street fight is another. In my peak shape at 6 feet tall and 245 pounds with a bench in the 425 range with a solid background in boxing and wrestling, in a real fight It would have been no contest. One or two punches and she is done.
1
@glenw-xm5zf That is impressive. It is awesome that you still work out. Much respect.

It was this fight I truly knew that Mike was a shot fighter. He may have won the fight but it was clear he was a shell of his former self at this point.
1
@614GTRjr Also change that three piece to a dozen over two fights.
1
@finnwinn-tq4ui LOL I can't tell if it is a troll or you just being sarcastic but it was hilarious anyways.
1
Tarver SUCKED....period. His only claim to fame, beating up an old washed up Roy Jones Jr.
1
I also think it is irrelevant in this case because I believe Buster could have gotten up at five if he needed to. He was stunned, not hurt.
1
@sergiocasillas6757 The Buster Douglas that showed up to fight Tyson that night would have beat the crap out of Holyfield.
1
@wolves1980 The referee made a MISTAKE. On a knockdown, once he directs the fighter to a neutral corner he is supposed to pick up the count from the ringside official. He did not so Buster got more time. However if he did pick up the count correctly Buster would have beat the count. I will also mention it was right at the end of the round so it is not like the ref stole a chance to knock him out from Tyson. So yes a mistake happened, did it have ANY impact on the outcome of the fight, NO!
1
Is he really underrated? Name one good fighter he beat in his prime? He was GIFTED MULTIPLE decisions in his tenure as champion, protected by the old tradition of you have to knock out the HW Champ to beat him.
1
She hit harder than Muhammad Ali...PLEASE, she didn't have 20% of his punching power.
