  2. It is all about money. People don't want to pay more for water from desalination than the cheaper water from rivers and lakes. With the population explosion on the planet we can't bury our head in the sand and pretend this problem doesn't exist. There is a finite amount of fresh water available and we need to invest in desalination technology so we do not destroy the environment by using up all the fresh water and changing the ecosystem.
