I have to say this is a result of being coddled as children, given participation trophy's and told they are special their whole life. Young kids today don't seem emotionally equipped to deal with the real world.

@rebeccamartin2399 What makes you think I am a "Dickhead" dad? I was a firm believer in setting rules, boundaries and guidelines. I never punished my children but I did discipline them. I never disciplined them if I was angry, I tried not to get angry if they broke rules or to take it personally. I was very laid back but I was also firm but fair. I was a big believer in letting my kids make their own decisions and mistakes vs trying to tell them what to do. When they did make a mistake I took it as a teaching moment and used it to have a conversation about their choices, how it led to that outcome and what they could do better in the future.

@rebeccamartin2399 A good example is my son was resistant to eating his carrots. I told him he could not get up from the table until he was finished. I was in the living room and he said I am done, far too quickly. I walked to the kitchen trash can and retrieved his wadded up napkin which had 6 or 8 carrots in it. Instead of getting angry and yelling at him, I simply opened another package of carrots and put them on his plate. Instead of eating 6 or 8 carrots he had to eat 20. I CALMLY told him that lying is an unacceptable behavior and because of HIS choices eating a entire package of carrots was the consequences of his bad choice. I NEVER had to repeat that particular exercise again.
