The problem is the Avro was obsolete before it entered service. It was designed to intercept Soviet Bombers that never materialized and the introduction of the ICBM made manned interceptors obsolete and all advanced interceptor projects around the world were canceled.

@glennwiebe5128 He didn't really shut down Avro, they project was so over budget that it was going to eat 30% of the entire Canadian military budget. The weapons system was in its infancy and a full working prototype had not even been built. The Arrow was still YEARS, possibly a decade away from being deployed. The PM made the right choice. The Arrow was a white elephant and was obsolete before it ever entered service. In the United States its contemporary was the F-106, the USAF planned to buy 1,000 aircraft and that order was reduced to 340 Aircraft with 63 of them being 2 seat trainers. It was Avro's fault for designing such a complex but limited aircraft that caused their company to close their doors.

@intercommerce True, but the B-52 and the B-1 had something the Arrow didn't have, flexibility of design. The Arrow was designed to perform one specific mission spectacularly....interception. It could not be adapted to a fighter. It had an incredibly short range so it is doubtful it could be adapted to the strike or recon missions as well.
