The most impressive part of this clip was his ability to maintain a straight face. I would fall out laughing constantly trying to pull this scene off.

LOL No it wasn't, an Iowa class BB is about 58,000 tons, moving at 30 knots she would rip that chain apart with east. You do not drift a BB.

@lowkey213 For one it isn't the anchor that keeps a ship in place, it is the weight of the anchor and the chain. For this to work they would have to drop the anchor and drag it along the bottom of the ocean and HOPE it catches in something strong enough to jerk the ship to one side. I will also say that the amount of sudden force put on the chain would probably cause it to part. It was not designed with drifting a battleship in mind.

@lowkey213 I was in the Navy and I served onboard the USS Iowa BB61 as a gunners mate in 16 inch turret one in 1989.

This movie was such trash there were so many ways they could have used an Iowa class's unique capabilities to enhance the story. For example the Aliens were jamming the Burke destroyers electronics rendering their weapons useless. The Missouri's analog fire control computer would have been immune, a brief scene explaining why and showing them using the analog fire control computers to defeat Alien Tech. The Alien weapons could have had trouble penetrating the armor of a battleship, so you could have had their projectiles bouncing off turret faces and the armor belt. Moving the projectile from turret 3 to one of the forward turrets was accomplished by a hoist and rail, they could have shown them doing that. It would have been easier to film, no less dramatic and been historically accurate. Instead of the stupid anchor drift which is pure BS you could have had the Aliens unaware of the Missouri's analog systems and they were confident in their electronic warfare systems as the Missouri approached and the shock on their faces when it didn't work and they don't know why. Once the Alien ship took some damage and the shield and EW systems went down I would have a scene from CIC where they tell EW is down, target acquired and shown them launching the Tomahawks and Harpoons, pummeling the Alien ship.

I remember taking a girl to see this movie on Valentines day. After the movie she was bitter and said nice movie to take me to on Valentines day. I replied what are you talking about it was a love story, did you see the asylum guard, that guy wore his heart on his sleeve. The look I got back from her made it all worth it lol.

Potentially this looks like the best film in the series since the original.

I swear this scene was taken right out of the Werewolf book The Hyde Effect by Steve Vance. In the book a man claiming to be a werewolf is taken to a mental hospital. Because he had killed quite a few people the media was there as well as Government officials. In the book they had him strapped down to a gurney with leather straps and everyone was observing. Just like in the movie he changes and breaks free and all sorts of mayhem ensues.

As a former battleship sailor, this movie was TRASH. I could have directed a much better movie. That high explosive shell weighed 2,250 pounds......You are NEVER going to carry a 16 inch shell. They had a monorail system for transporting shells in between turrets, it would have been no less full of drama if they used it. The monorail was not automated at all you had to move those shells with brute strength. It wasn't easy.
