True Brit story. An elderly white woman, much travelled and endlessly curious about the world's people and their lifestyles was introduced to her nephew's new girlfriend. "Where are you from?" She enquired as she would of anyone. The girlfriend is Black. The nephew immediately cut his aunt out of his life for the unforgivable crime of Racism. He broke up with the girlfriend within a year, but never spoke to his aunt again. He lives in Brighton, votes Green, speaks very quietly and puts photos of his lunch on Facebook. The old lady died alone. Just saying. 🇬🇧

@davideldred.campingwilder6481 no mate. To be clear I was present at that meal. I was not a protagonist. I did not intervene or comment at the time because I am not a member of that family just another guest, but it stuck with me. So I shared it at, I hope, a relevant moment.

On the other hand, several Tory notables Black or from theIndian sub continent stood up at the recent Conference and told their family history and how they got to our green and pleasant (not Green hah!) land. Thereby illustrating not only admirable candour and transparency, but also the important fact that New British people can be more patriotic than many Left- educated native Anglos. It aint about ethnicity. #BritishIsAsBritishDoes 🇬🇧
