If I felt I could trust people I might be in favour of not having a monarchy. So far monarchy worked for me because of high minded restrictions which, in my youth, I expected them to adhere to. If, however, other people too have a volte face, the bad behaviour of a few could finish the lot of them. That would be a pity because, nowadays there is so much corruption on every level that abolishing the monarchy would, not at all, be an improvement.

@robbiet8583 Hi. I don’t know the exact details but it is somewhere around £1 per year. Not a lot when you consider we get something near a soap opera thrown in for good measure. Every ten or so years we get some kind of family crisis we can think about to make us feel they are just like some of us. Quite good value I think and they stop power hungry oddballs trying to take over our poor old country.
