"Remember remember the 5th of November" ...... Anyone who hasn't watched the classic movie 'V for Vendetta', no need, your experiencing it in real life. Amazing that all this could be so accurately predicted in 2005. The virus, curfews, people surrendering all rights out of government created fear, dictatorial control ..... it predicted the lot. Wonder if the Bondi Junction train line does run directly under Parliament House, must come close.

@lilnate3951 I was wondering just how many trolls the comment would attract. I'm not disappointed. P.S. V for Vendetta is a very accurate portrayal of EXACTLY what is currently happening. The only real difference is which government actually created the virus.

There is no "discount" on capital gains for property. The correct term to describe it should be 'inflation adjusted capital gain'. That is EXACTLY why only 50% of the capital gain is included for tax, it is a easy method to remove the inflation component of the capital value increase so that only the true gain is taxed (same as shares). Over the long haul 50% is surprisingly accurate.

I suggest people make an attempt to actually read the important bits of the Royal Commission report. It would appear that it was actually the senior public servants in the Department of Human Services who failed their duty and actually mislead the politicians at that time (Payne, Morrison). The Department of Social Security was fully aware of how flawed the proposal was, and were strongly communicating this to Human Services (who were briefing the politicians). BUT Human Services failed to appropriately communicate those concerns to the politicians. Not only that they altered them to basically say 'no problem'. But you'll not see this reported by the media. Who's interested in boring facts these days.

@brettr5547 The Cabinet of the day had ZERO understanding of the flawed methodology used in 'robodebt'. In fact, the Royal Commission seems to have identified that virtually NO politician actually knew, in fact the opposite. They were informed by the Department of Human Services that the proposed scheme was basically sound (despite the Department of Social Security telling the DHS it was highly flawed).

Agree, wait long enough and even the most conservative timid person will be saying enough is enough and time to push back.

@Resavian Try this English ..... I genuinely think internet trolls are lower in the food chain of human existence than pedophiles.

I suggest you read the Royal Commission Report to understand the facts and who REALLY was responsible.

Actually Dutton is pretty much correct. The problem was the public service misleading the politicians (Payne and Morrison). The politicians were not only unaware of the potential problems, they were actually advised the proposed scheme was robust. It's all in the Royal Commission Report.

At least Dan knows a little science related to covid. He's correct when he compares the effectiveness of the mandatory wearing of surgical masks to the alternative of protracted lock-downs.
