My 97 4Runner is at 328k and runs like a dream. Owned it five years now.

@victorbaird8220 yes, but he said cigar. You don't inhale cigar smoke.
20
@danc9440 me too. Mine is also still original engine, transmission, and clutch.
15
1990 4Runner made it past 700k? Must have been a 22R-E.
12
He never said the crap original owner traded it in at a Toyota dealership. Most likely they traded it in at a used car lot. Learn to listen better people.
9
Toyota engineer and AMD get into a knock down, drag out brawl. 😂
9
You completely forgot his Italian tune-up segment.
7
Okay. So if your dealerships wanted $870 for a MAF sensor you would just pay it?
6
@Luckingsworth you're either higher than a kite or you have way too much disposable income if you are willing to pay $870 to a dealership for a MAF sensor. If cleaning doesn't fix your problem, go with a Hitachi MAF sensor for $60. At least it's a Japanese corporation.
6
No. He's from Spain, pretending to be of Middle Eastern descent. On the weekends he fights bulls just for fun. ¡Ole!
6
@danny1103 agreed. But the real truth (using high quality oil and filter) is every 6,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.
6
The previous owner of my 97 4Runner had a crack develop in the cylinder head at 279k, but it's a 3RZ, you had the 5VZ.
6
Helloooooooo and welcome!
6
This channel should be categorized under spiritual/religious at this point. I bet half his business comes from lost and needy souls.
6
7:30 I don't know Ahmed, my Toyota factory service manual lists the specs for grams per second mass air flow rate.
6
The real truth is they intentionally failed.
6
Stop saying rust belt. It's salt belt. Rust belt is something else entirely.
5
No it wouldn't. After 20 minutes of driving the ECU will re-compensate for the filthy throttle body that the owner always neglects to clean.
5
As well I shall.
5
That's not the same. 3.0L 3VZ-E is icky. Besides, 1995 Tacoma didn't come with 3.0L .. came with 2.7L 3RZ or 3.4L 5VZ.
5
wasn't a discharged battery eh?
5
@JackMeyHoffer562 exactly.
5
@KO_infamous only pressure wash the frame in the summer - when it's hot. And then let it dry outdoors. You failed to maintain your frame. You also had the option early on to coat it with undercoating and you chose not to.
5
They do run to 400k+ but it takes them about three head gasket replacements to get them there.
5
AMD wanted the entire frame submerged in wax prior to assembly.
5
Somehow I believe he knows what he's doing. If he needed goggles he would wear them.
5
Turns out the absolute coldest R134a AC can blow is 44°F. And that's as cold as mine ever gets (by vent thermometer)
4
@james-t1l3e haha. That's what mine is. Desert Dune Metallic paint with Lavender Steel Metallic painted bumpers.
4
38:15 3RZ-FE shout out! I've been waiting for The Car Care Nut to mention my engine for almost two years now. 😅
4
What about the factory service manual MAF sensor testing procedure? (Checking the air flow grams per second during warm idle and then while held at 2500 rpm) I checked mine a few months ago and it was still within both specs.
4
@marcodarko6941 it's entertainment man! Yippee!
4
In other words, you're desiring the best ... a 3rd generation 4Runner. Shoot for the 96 - 00 model years. Know ahead of time that all Limited models have an automatic transmission. But if automatic transmission is what you want, shoot for 2001 and 2002 models because they are all automatics regardless of Limited or SR5 trim. .. and they're the newest. But if 5-speed manual is your thing, shoot for any model years 96 - 00.
4
Not surprising since all Toyota pickups and 4Runners had that style parking brake handle from the late '60s to 1995. Tacomas kept it until 2004, while 4Runners ditched it by 1996. *And a 1985 Toyota pickup was just a pickup, not a Tacoma. Hilux in Japan, just pickup everywhere else.
4
@woodsprout yes, I am aware, but MAF sensors for third gen 4Runners are made by TOYOTA (I know this sounds dumb, but it's true)
4
3rd Gen 4Runner
4
Really? Because the McFly pickup was an '85 model, not a first gen Tacoma, but okay.
4
Rain? Really? Is it acid? One must live deep in a desert? 🏝️
4
You don't know that. At all.
4
I am also the third owner of my 3rd gen 4Runner. Bought in 2019 for $4,400 in great condition. Changed every fluid and gear oil, new entire exhaust, etc. Runs puuuurrrrfect. Oh, just hit 330,000 miles.
4
1997 4Runner 4×4 5-speed Forever!
4
This one is also an SR5. Not basic, mid-tier.
4
No, it's really: Gen 3 4Runner, or just go home.
4
Sure. $20k, no haggling.
4
Last year I cleaned out my throttle body with CRC throttle body cleaner and this year I cleaned my MAF with CRC MAF cleaner. All is well.
4
@scottykilmer3920 I drove it around for twenty minutes and it reset itself.
4
@mattandshelleymccool4753 do a block test yourself (detects carbon monoxide in the cooling system) carbon monoxide meaning exhaust gases. If the blue fluid turns yellow you're screwed.
4
Why do people keep saying this? The McFly pickup was an 85 model, not a Tacoma pickup which ran from 1995 to 2004.
4
@JAY-97-97 R134a might be able to blow colder down to 35°F I am not sure. I thought I was sure, until I realized nobody is sure.
3
96 and 97 4Runners with a Lavender Steel Metallic paint job were somewhat rare (or for 98 models, renamed Cool Steel Metallic) After 98 models they discontinued that paint code. I like that color so I had my front and rear bumpers repainted from their original dark gray to Lavender Steel Metallic.
3
Most 1st gen Tacomas that I see are usually pretty beat up, but once in a great while I see one in really nice shape. In comparison, most 3rd gen 4Runners that I see are usually kept pretty, and only once in a while do I see a beat up 3rd gen.
