Wouldn't wages be a factor of the quality of social programs a country offers? A lot of European countries have so many social benefits that they don't need as high of a wage, especially compared to countries like the US which offers little social support.
Also, when you think about it, when it comes to quality of life indexes, European countries, especially in the EU dominant the top 10, whereas countries like the US and the UK are slipping behind.
Wages are not as important of a factor as some like to think, there are countless factors that come into play like social benefits, cost of living and so on, there's also the factor that usually, goods are charged at a rate that consumers can afford, hence why you see a wide range of prices for the same products from different countries.
Personally, I can't say I care that much about what wage I earn, it's a means to an end at the end of the day, quality of life matters far more and European countries, especially western ones are doing much better on that than most of the world.
