The problem for Switzerland is that the country is too small, landlocked and too dependent on the EU market, that makes it very difficult for them to unbind ties without it being costly and that is likely going to be more the case as the decades go by. I think with all that, I think it's only a matter of time before Switzerland is integrated more in the EU, possibly becoming an EU member but that seems to be happening anyway, even if it's in name only. I suspect from the EU's point of view, they want to combine their relationship with Switzerland into a more simple agreement than the messy one they have now, so something a bit like Norway. Honestly I would like to see Switzerland become an EU member some day as I always find it odd a country slap bang in the centre of the EU isn't in it which could become harder to maintain in the longer run but in any case, whether Switzerland joins the EU or not, I would like them both to have close relations as that is in both parties interest.

Keys & Locks Not quite but I do agree the EU should become less complex but Switzerland could join at any time regardless of its complexity and I think because of its geographic position it's in, it's very likely it will join at some point.
