I think the US needs to be careful on what it does over the next few years, if the US plays too handball on the world stage and especially on the EU, they could end up pushing the EU to invest a lot more in high-tech whiles also changing the rules that are not as favourable for the US and the EU have the resources to invest in high-tech, it's just a matter of them having the incentive to do so.
Also, if the US isn't careful, Trump could be playing right into the hands of what China wants, which wants to pull the EU further away from the US, so not only will the EU get tougher on the US, but the EU might end up being on much friendlier terms with China, in other words, doing things that are not in US interest, and if that does happen, it's very likely that a lot of other countries will follow.
The US is playing a dangerous game that it could lose a lot of friends over the next few years if they are not careful, and that plays perfectly in what China wants, which is to divide the west, so the real question is, lets see how really dumb Trump really is lol.
