Got to remember that some of these eastern European countries have forgotten what democracy is all about with being behind the iron curtain for so long. The mistake the EU did was bringing in so many so fast when it should have brought one in at a time and when they are really ready, it would have been slower but at least they are lest likely to slip back into authoritarian governments. Thing is, without the EU keeping them in check, many would slip back and that would likely hurt the economy. Now I'm not saying all the eastern European countries are going that way but it's clear there are a few rotten eggs that shouldn't have been allowed in the EU until they are ready. This is also a big reason why the EU is slowing down the process of new members joining, because first the EU needs to sort the eastern EU members out before it can bring in newer members, so it's easy to see where the blame goes for that which is ironic because the ones that are to blame want the EU to expand the most lol.

But that's the thing, you don't notice it for years, sometimes even decades until it's too late. If people noticed it early on, there would likely be a big backlash. Many governments are smart in knowing how to get people to vote for things that are not in their interest, only to realize what a mistake it was years or even decades later when the damage is done, hence why you're not seeing any real impact on your life in any meaningful way, it's baby steps that most don't notice that amount to a lot of damage over the longer run, outsiders can see it a lot clearer because we don't have left right bias.

@martijn8554 That's something they don't seem to understand, they agree to the terms of being an EU member and now some are complaining about those terms lol. Those countries are always free to leave at any time they want but they would lose access to a lot of the benefits the EU offers, they would also have Russia playing more games with them as they would become an easier target. At the end of the day, the EU is about collective democracy, some things will go one countries way, others won't, that's how it works in a big union and in fact how it works in countries themselves and if you listen to these clowns, many regions within countries would want to split because of being overruled by other regions in the country on many laws.

@mlynto Maybe but clearly the people in those countries are not doing enough to change that past as in some countries, it looks like it could return and if these countries were not in the EU, it likely would have taken hold by now because the EU is keeping the pressure on the governments of those countries whiles highlighting to the people where the government is going wrong but it's up to the people to listen for any real change to happen, otherwise eventually, the EU will be forced to kick them out if they continue on that same path.
