I'm a big supporter of the African Union as I am of the European Union and it's clear to see that they are trying to emulate what the EU is doing which isn't a bad idea but there are problems and it mostly to do with how the African Union is doing it back to front in allowing any country to join it regardless of government style or rules set it and that gives those countries little to no incentive to change or come up with common standards and as we see with the EU, getting those changes are not easy and take time, there needs to be a carrot to get a lot of big changes, basically, it will be a lot harder for African countries to do those changes because there isn't any set common standards over the countries and no carrot to get those changes and enforce them.
I feel African countries should take a step back and work on the countries that are more stable and more willing to make it work than bringing everyone onboard, overtime they can expand and bring other countries onboard but for now it feels like it's a free for all with little to no rules and common grounds, so I wish them luck but unless they do some big changes, I don't hold much hope on its success.
Anyway, I don't see the African Union as a rival to the European Union, I see them as trying to aim for the same goals but going about it differently, a more stable and rich Africa will benefit both Europeans and Africans.
