The problem is with fringe parties, especially the more radical ones, is that it's harder to form a coalition, because their ideology of them all are very different from each other.
It's something that more centrist parties that are moderate have the advantage on, a lot of the policies of them all blend together and are not as radical, which makes it far easier for them to form a coalition, and unless the more radical parties in society can get enough votes to form a government without a coalition, then these will always be limited in what power they can get unless the population at large becomes more radical, which if that happens, then there are a lot more problems in society then some care to admit, and fortunately, we are not at that stage in any western countries, and if history is any indicator, hopefully, we'll never get to that stage.
