As PR goes, this war has already been a disaster for Putin, it's exposed his hardline image at home, shown how weak the Russian military is to the west and as Putin is likely pulling a lot of the strings on the military, showing his lack of judgement and intelligence, the war couldn't have gone any more wrong if he tried, losing Crimea could be enough for him to get deposed or even killed.
Putin knows he's messed up here and you can tell by his body language, he looks a lot more stressed and looks to be ageing more than usually, a clear sign that he's going through a lot of stress the last 8 months or so and in hindsight, if Putin could go back, I bet he wouldn't have started this war.

I'm all for peace talks and it should always be an option but it should be under the terms that Ukraine set and at the very least, they shouldn't accept any terms unless it includes taking back all Ukraine, including Crimea, but they might want to go further than that in wanting compensation from Russia in damage done to Ukraine and Ukraine would have every right to play that card.
Personally, I think that as long as the west continues to support Ukraine and Russia is on the back foot, they should continue to fight for all of Ukraine to send a powerful message to Russia and even China if they have any ideas on Taiwan, but whatever Ukraine and the west does, don't give Russia an inch here, Russia is the aggressor here and there needs to be a high price for their actions, beside, even if peace talks do happen, it's highly unlikely that Russia would agree to give Crimea back to Ukraine and that would be unacceptable for Ukraine, especially with them winning now.
