Separating would weaken them overall but this is likely a bit different from Brexit in the UK, the regions that want to separate from Spain, likely want to remain part of the EU, whereas with the UK, it was all out of the EU, which ironically is fuelling the separatist movements in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
In truth, a lot of these separatist movements are very emotional and a lot of what is promised is usually based on lies or half-truths, promising so much more if they get independence but just like with Brexit, not delivering.
I think it's in the interest of those regions and Spain to find solutions and work together to make it work, and reducing inequality and boosting the economy is usually a good way of reducing these problems, at least if the people actually feel the benefits of economic growth.
We are seeing the same pattern around Europe and North America, a lot of angry people that feel life is getting harder, the economic growth isn't being felt by the average person, and that's fuelling the rise of the popularise movements, it's also not helped by the right wing media that seems to want infighting among the people when really, they should be pushing for solutions to make things better, not getting us all to fight among each other.
