  1. Some things just make sense to have as a standard and this is one area. It doesn't stop progress because for phone chargers, they can do what many other organisations like WI-FI, Bluetooth and so on does, in other words, many companies get together to create a better standard as time goes on. This is just Apple being Apple and want to lock down the market and cash in on it's own standards, thankfully, we have the EU that cares about consumers interest.
