Not really sure what Putin hopes to achieve by taking Bakhmut, if the losses on the Russian side are as high as we're hearing.
Any war is all about what you gain over what you lose, and I can't help but feel that Russia is losing more than it's gaining with this war, from the sanctions that a lot of countries have put on them, to the loss of human lives and the hit to the economy and this is very likely a long term thing for Russia if the war drags, the end result is going to be, was it even worth the effort? Especially once the Russian people start to feel the impact on the economy, which could start later this year because that money reserve can only shield Russians for so long.
Personally, I think the west really needs to ramp up its arms to Ukraine, to make the cost of war to Russia so high that they'll think twice next time, that's the only language Russia understands, the cost for them has to be really high, otherwise, this will continue and could morph into something bigger.
