The west is looking really weak here, especially the US and EU, we keep hearing tough talk and sanctions but it's not really having an impact, we've known that for years it's not having much of an impact, western countries need to get a lot tougher, otherwise Russia won't stop at Ukraine because if no one is going to stop them, there are many tempting targets in the east of Europe for Russia to want to take on.
With that said, I highly doubt Russia would take on an EU or NATO country as the EU or NATO would have to respond with military force but there are many countries to the east that are not in the EU or NATO.
On that note, it's easy to see the real problem in the EU, we don't speak as one voice which makes us an easy target when it comes to division and a big reason why more integration in key areas is needed if we are to give the likes of Russia something to think about.
Either way, if the west doesn't do enough to deter Putin here, Putin isn't likely going to stop at just Ukraine and it will likely give China ideas in doing the same thing because why not, not like the west is doing anything to stop them.
So yeah, western countries need to grow a pair of balls here, especially the US and EU because they are both looking weak and like a joke from the outside.
