The west is looking really weak here, especially the US and EU, we keep hearing tough talk and sanctions but it's not really having an impact, we've known that for years it's not having much of an impact, western countries need to get a lot tougher, otherwise Russia won't stop at Ukraine because if no one is going to stop them, there are many tempting targets in the east of Europe for Russia to want to take on. With that said, I highly doubt Russia would take on an EU or NATO country as the EU or NATO would have to respond with military force but there are many countries to the east that are not in the EU or NATO. On that note, it's easy to see the real problem in the EU, we don't speak as one voice which makes us an easy target when it comes to division and a big reason why more integration in key areas is needed if we are to give the likes of Russia something to think about. Either way, if the west doesn't do enough to deter Putin here, Putin isn't likely going to stop at just Ukraine and it will likely give China ideas in doing the same thing because why not, not like the west is doing anything to stop them. So yeah, western countries need to grow a pair of balls here, especially the US and EU because they are both looking weak and like a joke from the outside.

  2. This was never about Donbas, this was about Putin's obsession with rebuilding the Soviet Union, in other words, it's unlikely that Ukraine is the last unless the west gets it's act together and puts it's foot down with Putin.

  3. The UN doesn't really have any power to do much but talk and a big part of the blame on that is because of the west. The US and the EU could do a lot more here thought but so far they both look quite weak with their response.

That's what I'm thinking, if the US and EU doesn't act soon and with much tougher measures, Russia isn't going to stop with Ukraine and weak action from the west will send a message to China that they can do the same that Russia is doing. Inaction or weak action rarely works with leaders like Putin, you need a firm tough line with people like that and so far, the west is looking really weak with it's response which doesn't bold well for the future unless something changes and quickly. Also, how quickly what's going on in Ukraine could escalate into a major world war, it's more or less how the second world war started and before we knew it, it got out of hand.
